Consider the analogy of boiled frog. You can put a frog into boiling water and it will jump out. But if you put a frog into cold water and gradually raise the temperature, the frog will boil to death. The same is true with organizations.
Applying rules is not the only way to be clever.

A race horse that can run a mile a few seconds faster is worth twice as much. That little extra proves to be the greatest value.
