We believe in individuality, freedom, inspiration, creativity - qualities that add uniqueness and enhances our lives. In keeping with this philosophy, Nokia constantly reaches out to the community and aims to enrich the lives of individuals through focused corporate citizenship efforts.
We are an involved partner in the local communities around the region, playing an active role in supporting a diverse range of local community activities
At Nokia, we not only deliver innovative products and solutions, we also seek to understand human needs and connect people in an all-embracing world of communication. "Connecting people" - that's what Nokia is about. That is also why we chose to support the arts in our inaugural regionwide sponsorship programme.
Nokia Arts Awards
Eye On The World
It is the visionary and universal quality of art that inspired Nokia to create the NOKIA ARTS AWARDS - ASIA PACIFIC. Through nurturing of the arts and the growth of our students' creativity, the Nokia Arts Awards aims to consciously promote the development of creative art across Asia Pacific.
"Eye on the World" - the theme for the Nokia Arts Awards 2001 is a celebration of innovation, artistic vision and creative human spirit. Everyday, what we experience in the physical world is shaping our minds - the unique domain where we are free to make personal statements, amplify our thoughts and express our sentiments.
In keeping with the 1999 focus "Visions of Your Future" and the 2000 focus "Playground of Your Imagination", "Eye on the World" is designed to stir the creativity and senses of young artists across Asia Pacific. Be it reality or fantasy, we invite you to cast your eyes on the world and express your artistic sentiments by stating your piece at the Nokia Arts Awards - Asia Pacific 2001.
Deemed one of the most comprehensive region - wide art awards competition in Asia Pacific, Nokia Arts Awards covered 14 markets, including Australia, China, Hong Kong, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand and Vietnam.
Evident from the submissions of the past two years' competitions were the cultural and ethnic diversity, and the students' creativity in expressing their artistic views of the world they live in. Nokia received a total of 5,638 entries across the 14 markets in Asia Pacific, in 2000 a three-fold increase from 1999.
The inaugural Nokia Arts Awards - Asia Pacific was launched across 12 markets in May 1999. With the overwhelming response of the 1999's arts programme, the second Nokia's Arts Awards - Asia Pacific was launched in 2000 across 14 markets in Asia Pacific, with the inclusion of two new markets, Japan and Korea. Nokia announced the culmination of the region-wide Nokia Arts Awards - Asia Pacific 2000 and presented awards to the regional winning entries at an elegant awards ceremony held in Seoul, South Korea early this year. Following the 2000 regional awards ceremony, all 70 art pieces were first exhibited at INSA Art Centre, a highly prestigious and popular art gallery in Seoul, South Korea. The exhibits are currently showcased to the public on a travelling exhibition across the four markets of Australia, Indonesia, the Philippines and Thailand at no charge.
Guests who have attended the regional launch event will individually receive a hand-painted plate. The image on the plate is the student artist's interpretation of the theme "Eye on the World".
