The first question when any one wants in one's computer.... Micorsoft Office. We are so used to using Microsoft products that we just don't think about using anything else.
Do you know how much it costs to buy license copy of MS Office £235. Pretty expensive. Half the price of your desktop. In India people are not keen to buy original products. So when you buy an assembled PC, the vendor will ask.. Sir.. which software you want to instal. And there you are MS Office (Professional Edition), DreamWeaver, Flash, Music Jukebox and what ever you can think of.
Do you know, what is an alternative for Pentium Processor... Most of us don't know. It is AMD processor. They are as good as Intel processor or some are better. Moreso they are cheaper.
Alternative to MSOffice is Open Office and greatest thing to know is... it is available free. You can download it from Internet.
You must make it a point to visit their website and make it a point to download it.
I have been using it for quite sometime. It allows to export the document in PDF format. Moreover it allows you save in Word Format also. So there is not much of hazzle in using it.
Then you can try the drawing software that is available. It scores well above MS Paintbrush. This has feature of making caricrature. And it is fun.
Another Office application that is available is StarOffice which is offered by Sun Micosystem. This is available for £40 per license. This is an advanced version of Open Office.
The point Sun is trying to make is these applications should be available to wider masses at affordable price. They are selling it Universities, Schools, Charitable Institutions, government and the home users.
If you are using pirated software of MS Office, try Open Office. Discourage piracy. And encourage price effective software.....
